Equivocation delays first preview by 24 hours

Manhattan Theatre Club (MTC) has delayed the first preview performance of Equivocation by 24 hours to allow for an additional day of technical rehearsal.

The first preview will now take place on 10 Feb 2010, opening night remains 2 Mar 2010, and the show will still run through to the 28 Mar 2010 as originally scheduled.

The New York Premiere of Equivocation, by Bill Cain, directed by Tony Award winner Garry Hynes, features Remy Auberjonois, Michael Countryman, David Furr, John Pankow, Charlotte Parry and David Pittu.

Equivocation, set in 1605 England, begins when King James' right hand man commissions Shakespeare to write a play about the Gunpowder Plot, a recent failed attempt to blow up Parliament and the Monarchy. The Bard replies, 'I write histories, not current events.' Coerced by his own company to appease the government and write the play, Shakespeare embarks upon an investigation that uncovers unexpected lies and threats, deceits and dangers.

The production will feature scenic & costume design by Francis O'Connor, lighting design by David Weiner, sound design David Van Tieghem & Brandon Wolcott, and fight direction by David Brimmer.
