'Defiance,' by John Patrick Shanley, is added to MTC's 2005 - 2006 season

Manhattan Theatre Club has added Defiance, a new play by John Patrick Shanley, to their 2005-2006 season. The production, directed by Doug Hughes, will open on the 28 Feb 2006 at City Center's Stage I, following previews from the 9 Feb 2006.

Defiance is set on a United States Marine Corps base in North Carolina in 1971. Two officers, one black and one white, are on a collision course over race, women, and the high cost of doing the right thing. The play is about power, love and responsibility who has it, who wants it, and who deserves it.

Shanley and Hughes previously collaborated on Doubt, which premiered at Stage I at New York City Center during MTCs 2004-2005 season. Doubt transferred to Broadways Walter Kerr Theatre, and won the Pulitzer Prize and four Tony Awards, including Best Play and Best Director.
