Comet in Moominland at New Victory Theatre
Manitoba Theatre for Young People presents the puppet theatre show, Comet in Moominland, a stage adaptation of Tove Jansson's beloved children's book, by Graham Whitehead, playing at the New Victory Theatre from 28 Sep - 14 Oct 2007.
Comet in Moominland: Janssons Moomin characters are brought to life by actor/narrators Jennifer Lyon and David Warburton on four tabletop stages, each more intricate and surprising than the last. The story follows the adventures of Moomintroll, an irresistible hippopotamus-like creature, and his friends Sniff and Snufkin, as they set out to rescue planet earth from a fiery comet.
This show is suitable for children ages 4 to 7.
Scheduled for 15 performances only Comet in Moominland is the New York debut for Manitoba Theatre for Young People, based in Winnipeg, Canada.
Considered MTYPs signature production, Comet in Moominland has toured to cities across North America, including Toronto, where it won the prestigious 2007 Dora Award for Outstanding Production (Young Audiences Division).
Tove Jansson was the author of numerous Moomin books, including Comet in Moominland, Moominsummer Madness, Moominland in Midwinter, and Moominpappa At Sea. The Moomins have been the stars of several feature animated films and television series, and have captured the hearts of millions of children since 1945. Their very own amusement park, Moomin World, is one of Finlands most popular attractions.
