Classic Stage Company has announced two plays and a musical for its upcoming 48th Season. The company's 2014-2015 season will feature: William Shakespeares's Hamlet, starring Peter Sarsgaard as Hamlet; Christopher Marlowe's Doctor Faustus, starring starring Chris Noth, directed by Andrei Belgrader; and Rodgers and Hammerstein's musical Allegro, directed by Tony Award winner John Doyle.

Full casting announcements and specific dates for each production will be forthcoming.

The plays will be presented in the following season order:

Allegro
by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II
Director: John Doyle
Date: Expected Oct 2014

Synopsis: Follow the story of Joe Taylor, Jr. from cradle to early manhood in this exploration of America's coming of age, as seen through the eyes of a young physician learning about the mysteries of life and death.

John Doyle is an Associate Director of the Classic Stage Company and won a Tony Award in 2006 for his production of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. Allegro marks the second installment of CSC's Musical Theater Initiative, which launched last year with the company's production of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Passion, also directed by Doyle.

Hamlet

The play portrays both true and feigned madness—from overwhelming grief to seething rage—and explores themes of treachery, revenge, incest, and moral corruption.

Peter Sarsgaard has previously been seen on Broadway in the 2008 production of 'The Seagull' by Anton Chekhov, and in two more Chekhov plays at the Classic Stage Company ('Uncle Vanya' and 'Three Sisters'). He is also known for numerous film roles, including 'Blue Jasmine', 'Lovelace', 'Kinsey', 'Shattered Glass', 'Boys Don't Cry', 'Garden State' and 'Green Lantern'.
