Ciara Renée joins The Keen Company's Tick, Tick...BOOM!
The Obie Award-winning Keen Company has announced that "DC's Legends of Tomorrow" star Ciara Renée will join the previously announced Nick Blaemire in their New York revival of Jonathan Larsen's Tick, Tick... BOOM!. They take on the roles of Susan and Jon, respectively.
Ciara Renée has previously appeared on Broadway in 'Big Fish' and the 2013 revival of 'Pippin,' assuming the role of Leading Player. She is perhaps best known for her TV role as Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl in "DC's Legends of Tomorrow," as well as "The Flash," and "Arrow."
In additional news, due to popular demand Tick, Tick... BOOM! has now moved from the Clurman Theatre to Theatre Row's larger Acorn Theatre, where previews will begin on 4 October 2016, before officially opening on 20 October, and will conclude its limited engagement on 20 November 2016.
Keen Artistic Director Jonathan Silverstein commented:
"We're so pleased our announcement of Tick, Tick... BOOM! has been met with such enthusiasm. To borrow lyrics from the show, 'We are moving on up!' With generous support from The 42nd Street Development Corp, we're overjoyed to be moving Tick, Tick... BOOM! upstairs to the 199-seat Acorn Theatre. Ten years ago we moved from being an itinerant company Off Off Broadway to our home at The Clurman in the heart of the theatre district. To now move to a theatre double its size is a tremendous step for us. We are so excited to be able to share this very Keen musical with even more people in The Acorn."Synopsis: "Before Rent, there was Tick, Tick... BOOM! This autobiographical musical, by the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning Jonathan Larson, is the story of an aspiring composer questioning his life choices on the eve of his thirtieth birthday. His girlfriend wants to get married and move out of the city, his best friend is making big bucks on Madison Avenue, but Jon is still waiting on tables and trying to write the great American musical. This exhilarating, funny, and moving work by the late Larson will speak to anyone who's ever gotten lost on their way to finding their dreams."
The Keen production is directed by Jonathan Silverstein and features musical direction by Joey Chancey, choreography by Christine O'Grady and script consultation by David Auburn. Additial cast and creative team members will be announced at a later date.
