Chinglish announces full cast

The Broadway premiere of Chinglish, the new comedy by Tony Award-winning and two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist David Henry Hwang ('M. Butterfly),' directed by Leigh Silverman, has posted early closing notices, and will play its final performance on 29 Jan 2012. When the show closes it will have played 19 previews and 109 regular performances.

The comedy, which opened at the Longacre Theatre on 27 Oct 2011, following previews from 11 Oct 2011, had been selling tickets through to 19 Feb 2012.

The show opened to mixed reviews: Lacking in substance (newyorktheatreguide); Sporadically funny (NY Times); Gets repetitive (NYDN); Comedy gold (NY Post); A funny yet rueful new comedy (Newsroom Jersey).

Chinglish is about the unpredictable complications that ensue when an American businessman (Gary Wilmes), despite his self-possessed cultural ignorance, seeks to expand his market by forging a relationship with government officials in a major Chinese city. Although he has hired an Australian entrepreneur(Stephen Pucci) who has lived in China to assist him, he soon finds that the complexities of such a venture far outstrip the expected differences in language, customs and manners - and calls into questions even the most basic assumptions of human conduct.

The cast features Gary Wilmes (Daniel Cavanaugh), Stephen Pucci (Peter Timms), Jennifer Lim (Xu Yan), Angela Lin (Miss Qian/Prosecutor Li), Christine Lin (Zhao), Johnny Wu (Bing/Judge Xu Geming) and Larry Lei Zhang (Minister Cai Guoliang).

The design team feature sets by David Korins, costumes by Anita Yavich and lighting by Brian MacDevitt.

The Broadway production is preduced by Jeffrey Richards, Jerry Frankel, Roy Gottlieb, Barry & Carole Kaye and David and Barbara Stoller in association with Goodman Theatre, and has been developed in association with The Public Theater.
