Charlie and the Chocolate Factory announces Broadway closing date

The Roald Dahl stage adaptation will play its final performance at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on January 14, 2018.

Sad news for Dahl fans, Oompa Loompas, and chocoholics alike as producers of the Broadway premiere of Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - The Musical have announced it will play its final performance at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on January 14, 2018. Upon closing, the Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures production will have played a total of 27 previews and 305 regular performances. The good news, however, is that golden tickets will soon be going on sale for a US National Tour, launching in September 2018, as well as an International Tour, launching in Australia in 2018, and a UK Tour in 2019.

Directed by three-time Tony Award winner Jack O'Brien and choreographed by Tony Award nominee & Emmy Award winner Joshua Bergasse, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory features music and lyrics by the Grammy, Emmy & Tony Award winning team of Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, with a book by David Greig.

Synopsis: "Willy Wonka, world famous inventor of the Everlasting Gobstopper has just made an astonishing announcement. His marvelous—and mysterious—factory is opening its gates...to a lucky few. That includes young Charlie Bucket, whose life definitely needs sweetening. He and four other golden ticket winners will embark on a mesmerizing, life-changing journey through Wonka's world of pure imagination. Get ready for chocolate waterfalls, exquisitely nutty squirrels and the great glass elevator, all to be revealed by Wonka's army of curious Oompa-Loompas."

The principal cast includes two-time Tony Award winner Christian Borle (as Willy Wonka), Jake Ryan Flynn, Ryan Foust and Ryan Sell (alternating as Charlie Bucket), Tony Award winner John Rubinstein (as Grandpa Joe), Emily Padgett (as Mrs. Bucket), Kathy Fitzgerald (as Mrs. Gloop), F. Michael Haynie (as Augustus Gloop), Ben Crawford (as Mr. Salt), Emma Pfaeffle (as Veruca Salt), Alan H. Green (as Mr. Beauregard), Trista Dollison (as Violet Beauregard), Jackie Hoffman (as Mrs. Teavee) and Michael Wartella (as Mike Teavee).

The creative team behind Charlie and the Chocolate Factory features orchestrations by Doug Besterman, scenic and costume design by Mark Thompson, lighting design by Japhy Weideman and puppet design by Basil Twist.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is produced on Broadway by Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures, Langley Park Productions and Neal Street Productions.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - The Musical is based on Roald Dahl's 1964 children's novel and the 1971 film adaptation (entitled "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory") starring Gene Wilder. A 2005 re-make was also released under the direction of Tim Burton, which starred Johnny Depp.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Tickets are now available for performances through to January 14, 2018.
