During World War II, a young boy struggles to survive during the Japanese occupation. In this gripping production that moves back and forth through time, these two stories supernaturally converge in the sleek lobby of a modern day luxury hotel where Chinese rap stars, curious tourists and business tycoons mingle.
Cathay: Three Tales of China features over sixty characters, rod, shadow and large-scale puppets are integrated with live actors and special effects.
In Ping Chong's Cathay: Three Tales of China, the performers bring characters to life using many styles of puppetry. The most prominent style is shadow puppetry. Shadow puppets are usually translucent figures that have been painted to create colorful shadows. These puppets are placed behind a screen and can be seen when a light is turned on behind them. Puppeteers use rods or strings that are attached to the puppets to move them.
This show is not recommended for audience members under the age of 9 due to the mature level of content. There are some graphic images of war, adult situations and language.
