The New York Theatre Workshop, under artistic director James C. Nicola, has announced complete casting for its upcoming world premiere of folk opera Hadestown by singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell.

The cast includes Nabiyah Be (Eurydice), Damon Daunno (Orpheus), Lulu Fall (a Fate), Amber Gray (Persephone), Patrick Page (Hades), Jessie Shelton (a Fate), Chris Sullivan (Hermes) and Shaina Taub (a Fate).

Hadestown, is co-developed and directed by Rachel Chavkin, and co-conceived by Ben T. Matchstick.

Synopsis: "Hadestown follows Orpheus' mythical quest to overcome Hades and regain the favor of his one true love, Eurydice. Together we travel from wide open plains where love and music are not enough nourishment to survive the winter, down to Hadestown, an industrialized world of mindless labor and full stomachs. Inspired by traditions of classic American folk music and vintage New Orleans jazz, Mitchell's beguiling melodies and poetic imagination pit nature against industry, faith against doubt, and love against death."

The creative team behind Hadestown has also been announced and features choreography by David Neumann, scenic design by Rachel Hauck, costume design by Michael Krass, lighting design by Jennifer Tipton and sound design by Rob Kaplowitz. Music Direction is by Liam Robinson, with arrangements & orchestrations by Michael Chorney and co-arrangements & orchestrations and music supervision by Todd Sickafoose, and dramaturgy is by Ken Cerniglia.
