By the Dawn's Early Light at Theatre Row

Apple Core Theater Company presents By The Dawn's Early Light, two one-act plays ['Los Embrujados' and 'Midnight Mass'] commemorating the events of September 11th, by Mel Nieves, at Theatre Row's Studio Theater from 11 - 28 Aug 2011.

In Los Embrujados (The Haunted Ones), a nervous waiter at the Windows on the World restaurant studies with his gregarious older brother for his impending U.S. Citizenship test. As his girlfriend waits to tell him something very special, it's a time of possibilities on this bright, clear September morning, and as he prepares for his new life, 'Los Embrujados' looks at what it means to be an American.

Midnight Mass follows a group of New Yorkers connected by September 11th: a war veteran whose trauma may cost him his family; his brother, who must leave his pregnant fiancée to go on his first tour of duty; a nurse whose husband perished in the Towers; and a veteran firefighter desperate to reclaim the courage he knew as a First Responder.

Directed by Walter J. Hoffman, the cast of By The Dawn's Early Light features Camilo Almonacid, Arturo Castro, Alicia Fitzgerald, Wynn Hall, Mike Havok, Gustavo Heredia, Jorge Humberto Hoyos, , Kevin Prowse, Gordon Silva, Karen Sours and Damian Thompson.

By The Dawn's Early Light features set design by Adam Kaynan, sound design by Joemca and costume design by David L. Zwiers.

A long-time member of the award winning LAByrinth Theatre Company, Mel Nieves's works have been presented by the Downtown Urban Theatre Festival, Repertorio Espanol, Cherry Lane Theatre, the LAByrinth Barn Series festival at The Public Theater, and LAByrinth Theatre Company's Summer Intensive Workshops at The Saratoga Performing Arts Center and Bennington College.
