Beautiful: The Carole King Musical sets Broadway closing date
The Tony Award-winning Broadway musical has announced its final performance on the Great White Way.
See it before'"It's Too Late"... Beautiful: The Carole King Musical has set its closing date at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre on Broadway after 60 preview and 2,418 regular performances. Having opened in New York on January 13, 2014, the musical will play its final performance this fall on October 27, 2019.
The musical, which tells the inspiring story of legendary songwriter Carole King's incredible ascent from her teen years to Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame, has been seen by over 2 million people over the course of its 5-year run, including Ms. King herself, who visited the show in April 2014.
It went on to be a multi-award-winning hit, with Tony Award wins for "Best Leading Actress in a Musical" (for Jessie Mueller) and "Best Sound Design" (for Brian Ronan), a Grammy Award for "Best Musical Theater Album," and two Olivier Awards for its subsequent London production.
Beautiful features some of King's greatest hits, including "You've Got a Friend," "One Fine Day," "Up on the Roof," "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling," "Will You Love Me Tomorrow," and "Natural Woman."
Announcing the closure, producers Paul Blake and Mike Bosner commented: "The remarkable run we've enjoyed on Broadway, and continue to enjoy from coast-to-coast and around the globe, is a tribute to the incredible artists involved, from the inimitable Carole King, and Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, to Douglas McGrath and Marc Bruni, our entire design team, and every single cast member who has lent their talent to our productions. There is no way to adequately express our awe or gratitude for every single person in our Beautiful family."
The cast of Beuatiful currently includes Vanessa Carlton, who is making her Broadway debut in the titular role, alongside Evan Todd (as Gerry Goffin), Jessica Keenan Wynn (as Cynthia Weil), Ben Jacoby (as Barry Mann), Paul Anthony Stewart (as Don Kirshner), and Tony Award nominee Liz Larsen (as Genie Klein).
Marc Bruni directs the production, which features choreography by Josh Prince, scenic design by Derek McLane, costume design by Alejo Vietti, lighting design by Peter Kaczorowski, and sound design by Brian Ronan.
