Bare: rock musical to play at New World Stages

The musical Bare will come to New York this fall, opening Off-Broadway at New World Stages on 9 Dec 2012, following previews from 19 Nov 2012.

Featuring music by Damon Intrabartolo and book & lyrics by Jon Hartmere, Bare will be directed by Stafford Arima (Carrie, Altar Boyz) and choreographed by Travis Wall (So You Think You Can Dance). Additional songs are by Hartmere and Lynne Shankel (Altar Boyz, Cry-Baby, Company).

Donyale Werle (Peter and the Starcatcher, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson) is the scenic designer. Additional design team and complete casting will be announced in the coming weeks.

Bare is the story of a group of teens as they wrestle with their identities, sexuality and religion at a co-ed Catholic boarding school. As their final year of high school draws to a close, they attempt to navigate the complex road from adolescence to adulthood and must then deal with the consequences of their choices as they prepare to take the next step in their lives.

Producer Randy Taradash said, "The story resonates because it is one we are all familiar with: the challenges of growing up, of loving and accepting ourselves. We have been working with the creative team to re-conceive Bare for today's audience and are thrilled to be presenting this new production at a time when its message reverberates with unprecedented clarity."

Bare had its world premiere at the Hudson Theater in Los Angeles, CA, where it began performances ion 14 Oct 2000 and ran through to 25 Feb 2001. Following the Los Angeles production, Bare began its run Off-Broadway at the American Theatre of Actors (Chernuchin Theatre) on 25 Mar 2004. It opened April 19, 2004 and played through 27 May 2004. The musical has since had more than 100 productions worldwide.

The musical is being produced Off-Broadway by Randy Taradashh, Paul Boskind and Martian Entertainment, and Gregory Rae.
