Avenue Q: Christy Carlson Romano to join cast on 29 Sep 2008


Christy Carlson Romano will play the roles of 'Kate Monster' and 'Lucy' from 29 Sep 2008 in the musical Avenue Q, and continue in the show through to 23 Nov 2008.

Carey Anderson, who assumed the role from Sarah Siles on 3 Jun 2008, plays her final performance on 28 Sep 2008.

Christy Carlson Romano's Broadway credits include playing 'Belle' in 'Beauty and the Beast' (1994) and 'Mary Phagan' in 'Parade ' (1998). Along with having voiced the title role of 'Kim Possible,' for which she received an Emmy nomination for Best Performance in an animated series, Romano has played starring roles in the ABC Family television series 'The Cutting Edge 2,' 'The Cutting Edge 3,' and 'Campus Confidential,' along with the Disney Channel's 'Cadet Kelly' and 'Even Stevens' with Shia LeBeouf.

Avenue Q, the winner of three 2004 Tony Awards - including Best Musical, celebrated its 5th anniversary on Broadway on 31 Jul 2008.

Avenue Q currently features Christian Anderson (Nicky, Trekkie Monster, Bear and Others), Jennifer Barnhart (Mrs. T, Bear & Others), Nicholas Kohn (Brian), Ann Sanders (Christmas Eve), Carla Renata (Gary Coleman), Howie Michael Smith (Princeton, Rod) and Carey Anderson (Kate Monster, Lucy & others)

The musical is about a charming yet rundown outer-borough neighborhood, where the residents - both puppets and humans - deal with everyday New York challenges like getting a job, falling in love and discovering their purpose in life.

Avenue Q opened at the John Golden Theatre on the 31 Jul 2003, following previews from the 11 Jul 2003.

The musical opened to mostly good reviews �Eminently likable.� (New York Times), "has so much to recommend it.� (New Yorker), �Good dirty fun.� (New York Post), �warmth and wit that will disarm the most jaded grown-ups.� (USA Today) and �hip new musical comedy.� (Time Magazine).

Avenue Q is directed by Jason Moore and choreographed by Ken Roberson. It is produced on Broadway by Kevin McCollum, Robyn Goodman, Jeffrey Seller.

The musical has music & Lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, Book by Jeff Whitty, based on an original concept by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx.

Set design is by Mirena Rada with puppet design by Rick Lyon, costumes by Mirena Rada, lighting by Howell Binkley and sound by Acme Sound Partners

Avenue Q won three 2004 Tony Awards: Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score.
