Anything Goes: Sutton Foster to star



The Roundabout Theatre Company has announced that Tony Award-winner Sutton Foster (Thoroughly Modern Millie) will star as 'Reno Sweeney' in a new Broadway production of Anything Goes, to be directed and choreographed by two time Tony Award-winner Kathleen Marshall (The Pajama Game, Wonderful Town).

The revival is to begin performances on Broadway from Feb 2011. The theatre, full casting and design team is still to be announced,.

The musical features score & lyrics by Cole Porter; original book by P.G. Wodehouse & Guy Bolton and Howard Lindsay & Russel Crouse; New book by Timothy Crouse and John Weidman.

Anything Goes: When the S.S. American heads out to sea, etiquette and convention head out the portholes as two unlikely pairs set off on the course to true love... proving that sometimes destiny needs a little help from a crew of singing sailors, an exotic disguise and some good old-fashioned blackmail.

The score features such classics as 'You're the Top,' 'Blow, Gabriel, Blow,' 'It's De-Lovely,' 'I Get A Kick Out of You,' and 'Anything Goes.'

Sutton Foster recently starred on Broadway as 'Princess Fiona' in 'Shrek: The Musical,' for which she received a Tony nomination. Prior to that, Sutton was 'Inga' in the Mel Brooks musical, 'Young Frankenstein,' 'Janet Van De Graaff' in The Drowsy 'Chaperone' (2006 Tony nomination) and 'Jo March' in 'Little Women: The Musical' (2005 Tony nomination). She is the recipient of the 2002 Tony and Astaire Awards for her performance as 'Millie Dillmount' in 'Thoroughly Modern Millie,' a role she created in the 2000 La Jolla Playhouse premiere. On television, Sutton recently guest starred on "Law & Order: SVU." Other appearances include the Disney Channel's "Johnny and the Sprites" and several episodes of the HBO series, "The Flight of the Conchords."

Kathleen Marshall returns to the Roundabout, where she directed and choreographed the Tony Award winning musical 'The Pajama Game' starring Harry Connick Jr. and Kelli O'Hara. Her history with Roundabout began in 1993 when she was the Associate Choreographer to her brother Rob Marshall in the critically acclaimed Broadway production of 'She Loves Me.' Marshall also choreographed Roundabout's productions of 'Follies' and '1776' and won a 2004 Tony Award for her choreography of 'Wonderful Town.'

The design team for this new revival of Anything Goes includes Derek McLane (Sets), Martin Pakledinaz (Costumes) and Peter Kaczorowski (Lights).

Anything Goes premiered on Broadway on 21 Nov 1934 at the Alvin Theatre, starring Ethel Merman, directed by Howard Lindsay and choreographed by Robert Alton.

The first Broadway revival of Anything Goes premiered on Broadway on 19 Oct 1987 at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre and won the Tony Award for best revival. It starred Patti LuPone, with direction by Jerry Zaks and choreographed by Michael Smuin.
