A Doll's House, Part 2 begins previews tonight
The Broadway premiere of Lucas Hnath's new drama A Doll's House, Part 2, directed by Tony winner Sam Gold, begins previews at the Golden Theatre tonight, ahead of an official opening on April 27 (which is also the Tony Awards eligibility cut-off date) and a limited engagement through to July 23, 2017.
Synopsis: "In the final scene of Ibsen's 1879 ground-breaking masterwork, Nora Helmer makes the shocking decision to leave her husband and children, and begin a life on her own. This climactic event - when Nora slams the door on everything in her life - instantly propelled world drama into the modern age. In A Doll's House, Part 2, many years have passed since Nora's exit. Now, there's a knock on that same door. Nora has returned. But why? And what will it mean for those she left behind?"
The all-star cast of A Doll's House, Part 2 includes three-time Emmy winner and three-time Tony nominee Laurie Metcalf, Oscar winner Chris Cooper, Tony winner Jayne Houdyshell and two-time Tony nominee Condola Rashad.
This new work marks the Broadway debut of writer Lucas Hnath. The play was originally commissioned by South Coast Repertory in Costa Mesa, California. Their production is scheduled to begin performances on April 9, 2017, and will consequently run simultaneously with the Broadway engagement.
The creative team for the Broadway production features scenic design by Miriam Buether and costume design by Tony winner David Zinn.
A Doll's House, Part 2 is produced on Broadway by Scott Rudin.
