A Child's Christmas in Wales at the Irish Rep

The Irish Repertory Theater will present A Child's Christmas in Wales, by Dylan Thomas, adapted by Charlotte Moore, opening at the Irish Repertory Theater on 11 Dec 2011, following previews from 7 Dec 2011 and running through to 31 Dec 2011.

A Child's Christmas in Wales is an anecdotal sketch of the festive season, originally written for radio. Dylan creates the nostalgic magic of a childhood Christmas when everything was brighter and better. The show includes traditional selections and original songs (many in close harmony).

The cast for the production is still to be announced.

The show features costume design by David Toser and lighting design by Mary Jo Dondlinger.

Dylan Thomas (Author) was born in Swansea, a seacoast town in southern Wales, on 27 Oct 1914. After dropping out of school at sixteen, he worked as a junior reporter on the South Wales Evening Post. In November 1934, Thomas moved to London and in December of that year published his first book of poetry. Thomas also conducted a series of reading tours of the United States. During his fourth American lecture tour, and a few days after his thirty-ninth birthday, he collapsed in his New York hotel. Dylan Thomas died on 9 Nov 1953, at St. Vincent's Hospital. His body was sent back to Wales, where his grave is marked by a simple wooden cross.
