2005 Tony Award nominations announced



The 2005 Tony Award Nominations where announced today at the Marriott Marquis Hotel by Alan Cumming, Lynn Redgrave, Kate Burton and Brian Stokes Mitchell.

Monty Python's Spamalot leads the way with fourteen nominations, however Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and The Light In The Piazza each receive 11 nominations, so the competition to see which musical will receive the most Tony's is closely contended.

Doubt, with 8 nominations, is the most nominated play. Doubt, which has already won 4 Outer Critics Circle Awards and 5 Lucille Lortel Awards, seems set to win even further acclaimation with the 2005 Tony Awards. Three other plays each receive six nominations: Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, Glengarry Glen Ross and The Pillowman.

The winners will be announced at the Tony 2005 Award ceremony at Radio City Music Hall on Sun 5 Jun, which will be hosted by Tony Award winner Hugh Jackson

The Regional Theatre Tony Award will be presented to Theatre de la Jeune Lune, Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre will this year be presented to Edward Albee.
