
Randall Arney stars as Dr. Sweet in Bug on Broadway at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre from December 17, 2025.
An actor and director, Arney served from 1987-95 as the the artistic director of Steppenwolf Theatre Company, where this production of Bug premiered in 2021. Under his leadership, shows that transferred from the Chicago institution to Broadway include The Rise and Fall of Little Voice, The Song of Jacob Zulu (six Tony Award nominations), and The Grapes of Wrath (1990 Tony Award – Best Play). He has also acted and/or directed in more than 15 Steppenwolf productions.
He went on to become artistic director of the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles from 1999-2017, producing multiple other productions that went on to Broadway transfers, including Carrie Fisher's solo show Wishful Drinking. Bug marks Arney's Broadway acting debut.
