Josh Groban stars in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street on Broadway.

Josh Groban is a Grammy Award-nominated singer and actor who has released 13 live and studio albums, four of which are certified multi-platinum. He debuted on Broadway in 2016 as Pierre in Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812.

Born February 27, 1981, in Los Angeles, California, Groban began singing at a young age and participated in musical theatre at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts. His big break came producer David Foster chose him to stand in for Andrea Bocelli and rehearse a duet with Celine Dion for the Grammy Awards. He then began performing at events and on television shows, eventually dropping out of Carnegie Mellon University to pursue a singing career.

In 2001, Groban released his debut self-titled album, which went double-platinum the following year. He went on to perform at many high-profile events, such as the 2002 Winter Olympics closing ceremonies and a Christmas concert at the Vatican, before releasing his second album, Closer, in 2003. The album reached number one on the Billboard charts and features his famous cover of “You Raise Me Up,” earning him his first Grammy nomination.

Over the years, he put out eight more albums, culminating in Harmony in 2020. In each album, Groban explores different musical stylings and genres, such as the pop-leaning Illuminations and the musical theatre-focused Stages. Another, Bridges, includes duets with artists including Andrea Bocelli, Sarah McLachlan, and Jennifer Nettles.

While he starred in a few films and made guest appearances in television shows, his most significant acting performance occurred in Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812. He starred as Pierre alongside Denée Benton as Natasha, earning a Tony Award nomination for his portrayal. He remained in the production until its closing in fall 2017. The following year, he hosted the Tony Awards alongside Sara Bareilles and earned two Emmy nominations.

In 2023, Groban returned to Broadway to star in Sweeney Todd, in which he currently plays the title barber alongside Annaleigh Ashford as Mrs. Lovett.
