Christine Altomare was born on June 23, 1986 in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. She attended Pennsbury High School and later the University of Cincinnati’s Conservatory of Music, majoring in musical theatre. She graduated in 2008 and soon after was cast as Wendla in the national tour of Spring Awakening.
Altomare made her Off-Broadway debut in MCC Theater’s 2012 revival of Carrie, portraying Sue Snell in the musical adaptation of the cult Stephen King thriller. A Broadway debut quickly followed as she joined the cast of the long-running hit musical Mamma Mia!, assuming the role of Sophie Sheridan in June 2012. Her big breakthrough came as she was cast to play the title role in the new stage adaptation of Anastasia, based on the 1997 animated film by Twentieth Century Fox. Following a pre-Broadway tryout at Hartford Stage in Connecticut in 2016, the Broadway premiere began performances on March 23, 2017, and she remained with the production for the entirety of its Broadway run through March 31, 2019. She received her first Drama Desk Award nomination and won a Theatre World Award for her portrayal of the legendary Grand Duchess of Russia.
Since Anastasia closed, Altomare has performed in Broadway Princess Party concerts in New York City and on tour around North America, and she released a solo album of original music called Wandering Bird.
