Wicked: Alex Brightman assumes the role of 'Boq'

 

Alex Brightman assumes the role of 'Boq' in the Broadway musical Wicked won 4 Nov 2008. He assumes the role from Logan Lipton who played his final performance on 2 Nov 2008.

Brightman recently understudied the roles of 'Jack' and 'Will' in the short lived Broadway musical 'Glory Days' (2008) at Circle in the Square. Regional credits include 'The History Boys' at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles.

As previously announced Marcie Dodd will assume the role of 'Elphaba' and Alli Mauzey will assume the role of 'Glinda.' Also joining the company on the 11 Nov are Kevin Kern in the role of 'Fiyero' and Brynn O'malley as 'Nessarose.'

They join a cast which currently includes Jayne Houdyshell as Madame Morrible, P.J. Benjamin as The Wizard, and Timothy Britten Parker as Dr. Dillamond. Kerry Ellis (Elphaba), Kendra Kassebaum (Glinda), Aaron Tveit (Fiyero) and Cristy Candler (Nessarose) will play their final performances on 9 Nov 2008.

The Broadway musical Wicked celebrated its fifth anniversay on 30 Oct 2008. The show opened at the Gershwin Theatre on 30 Oct 2003, following previews from 8 Oct and is currently booking through to 30 Aug 2009.

Long before Dorothy drops in, two other girls meet in the land of Oz. One, born with emerald-green skin, is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. Wicked tells the story of their remarkable odyssey, how these two unlikely friends grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch.

Wicked has music & lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, book by Winnie Holzman, based on the novel by Gregory Maguire.

The musical is directed by Joe Mantello, with choreography by James Lynn Abbott, scene design by Eugene Lee, costumes by Susan Hilferty, lighting by Kenneth Posner and sound by Tony Meola.
