The acclaimed Australian production of the Phantom sequel can be streamed from this Friday, April 24 at 2pm (ET).
"Til I Hear You Sing..." this Friday! Hot on the heels of last weekend's free streaming of The Phantom of the Opera at the Royal Albert Hall, the iconic musical's sequel Love Never Dies has now been named as this weekend's offering. Presented by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Universal, the acclaimed Australian production, directed by Simon Phillips, which took home three prestigious Helpmann Awards, will be made available on The Show Must Go On! YouTube Channel from 2pm (ET) this Friday, April 24 for a limited 48-hour period.
Synopsis: "Love Never Dies continues the story of The Phantom of the Opera... The year is 1907. It is 10 years after his disappearance from the Paris Opera House and the Phantom has escaped to a new life in New York where he lives amongst the screaming joy rides and freak-shows of Coney Island. In this new electrically-charged world, he has finally found a place for his music to soar. All that is missing is his love - Christine Daaé. Now one of the world’s finest sopranos, Christine is struggling in an ailing marriage to Raoul. So, it is with excitement she accepts an invitation to travel to New York and perform at a renowned opera house. In a final bid to win back her love, the Phantom lures Christine, her husband, and their young son Gustave from Manhattan, to the glittering and glorious world of Coney Island... not knowing what is in store for them...."
The Melbourne production was filmed at the Regent Theatre on September 15, 2011 and features a cast of 36 (led by Ben Lewis and Anna O'Byrne) alongside a 21 piece orchestra, over 300 lavish costumes and an award-winning set design that includes over 5000 light bulbs.
The world premiere of Love Never Dies was staged at the Adelphi Theatre in London's West End, debuting in February 2010. The re-worked Australian production premiered in Melbourne in May 2011, garnering more favorable reviews than its West End predecessor. Since then, that production has been staged in Denmark, Japan and Germany, and although the tuner has yet to be seen on the Great White Way, a US National Tour was launched in September 2017 in Utica, New York, concluding in December 2018 in Austin, Texas.
