The Public announces casting for Lemon Andersen's ToasT

The off-Broadway non-profit Public Theater has announced casting for the new play by spoken word artist and Tony Award-winning writer Lemon Andersen entitled ToasT, directed by Elise Thoron, which begins previews on 21 April 2015, before an official opening on 5 May and a limited run through to 10 May 2015.

The cast includes Tony nominees Keith David (Dolomite) and John Earl Jelks (Stackolee), along with Phillip James Brannon (Annabelle Jones), Dan Butler (Sheriff Jody), Teddy Canez (G.I. Joe), Hill Harper (Hard Rock), Jonathan Earl Peck (Hobo Ben), and Armando Riesco (Jesse James).

Synopsis: "ToasT weaves major characters from black oral narratives into a story about a group of inmates fighting to keep their minds free amidst the 1971 riots that rocked Attica Prison."

The creative team has also been announced and features scenic design by Alexis Distler, costumes by Dede Ayite, lighting by Jen Schriever, and sound design by Rob Kaplowitz.
