Matthew Lopez's epic two-part drama The Inheritance, which took home four Olivier Awards at this year's ceremony in London including "Best New Play," has now officially announced its Broadway transfer. Previews are scheduled to begin at the Barrymore Theatre on September 27, 2019, ahead of an official opening on November 17.

Check out our critic, Mark Shenton's 5* review on our London Theatre Guide sister site.

Synopsis: "It begins with a gathering of young, gay New Yorkers. Each has a story aching to come out... Profoundly touching and wickedly hilarious, Matthew Lopez's highly-anticipated two-part play, The Inheritance, asks how much we owe to those who lived and loved before us, and questions the role we must play for future generations. Brilliantly re-envisioning E. M. Forster's masterpiece Howards End to 21st-century New York, it follows the interlinking lives of three generations of gay men searching for a community of their own - and a place to call home. The Inheritance is a life-affirming journey of tears and laughter, through conflicts and connections, heartbreak and hope. A new play, generations in the making."

The Broadway production will be directed by two-time Tony Award winner Stephen Daldry, who also won the Olivier for "Best Director" for his efforts in London. The creative team also features scenic & costume design by Bob Crowley, lighting design by Jon Clark, sound design by Paul Arditti, and music by Paul Englishby.

The world premiere of The Inheritance was staged at London's Young Vic, running from March 2 through May 19, 2018. Following huge critical acclaim, the production would transfer to the West End's Noël Coward Theatre, where it enjoyed a limited engagement from September 21, 2018 through January 19, 2019.

The Inheritance is produced on Broadway by Tom Kirdahy, Sonia Friedman Productions and Hunter Arnold.

Casting for the Broadway production will be announced at a later date, however, the London cast included Olivier Award-winning "Best Actor" Kyle Soller, Tony Award winner John Benjamin Hickey, and Tony Award winner Vanessa Redgrave, among others.
