The Heart of Robin Hood delays Broadway opening

Producer David Mirvish and National Artists Management Company have announced that David Farr's The Heart of Robin Hood, which was set to open at Broadway's Marquis Theatre on 29 March 2015, following previews from 10 March, has delayed its transfer to New York, choosing to extend performances at Toronto's Royal Alexandra Theatre.

In a statement made today, David Mirvish said: "In light of the great reception we are getting from audiences and the media in Toronto, we have decided not to rush in to New York this season...The Nederlander Organization had kindly offered us an interim booking at the Marquis Theatre this summer and we now feel that The Heart of Robin Hood would be better served by a venue where we had the potential to play longer than our limited run. We are delighted to be able to add more weeks of performances for our audiences here in Toronto."

The production opened in Toronto where it will continue to play to 29 March 2015. No future Broadway dates have been announced.

The cast of the Canadian production includes Tony winner Gabriel Ebert, Tony nominee Euan Morton, Izzie Steele and Christian Lloyd, with Anna Bartlam, Richard Clarkin, Jeremy Crawford, Zachary Eisenstat, Paul Essiembre, Amariah Faulkner, Troy Feldman, Jason Gosbee, Martin Julien, Tristan Mackid, Katelyn McCulloch, Meguire McRae-King, Carson Reaume, Sarah Schenkkan, Stephen Michael Spencer, Darcy Stewart and Tate Yap.

"Every legendary hero has to start somewhere. In The Heart of Robin Hood, playwright David Farr presents a new spin on the familiar fable. Forget everything you ever knew about Robin Hood. In this reimagining, Robin and his unmerry gang of cutthroats steal from the rich, but it's never occurred to them to give anything back to anyone. But when wicked Prince John threatens all, bold Marion steps in to protect the poor and transform a thuggish Robin from hood to good."

The comedy is directed by Gísli Örn Gardarsson, and features scenic design by Börkur Jónsson, costumes by Emma Ryott and lighting design by Jonathan Deans.

The musician members of Parsonsfield include Chris Freeman, Antonio Alcorn, Max Shakun, Harrison Goodale and Erik Hischmann.

The Heart of Robin Hood first premiered at the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-upon-Avon in 2011 and went on to stage its US premiere at the American Repertory Theater in Massachusetts in 2013.
