'The Griswolds’ Broadway Vacation' to play pre-Broadway runs in Seattle and Houston

The new musical will play its regional performances in fall 2022.

Who's ready for a road trip? A new musical titled The Griswolds' Broadway Vacation will play its world premiere engagements in Seattle and Houston before heading to Broadway in the 2022-2023 season. A Broadway venue and dates have yet to be announced.

The first run will take place from September 10 to October 1, 2022, at Seattle's 5th Avenue Theatre, a venue that has hosted pre-Broadway engagements of musicals like Aladdin, Mrs. Doubtfire, and Hairspray. The second will run at Houston's Theatre Under the Stars from October 25 to November 6.

The Griswolds' Broadway Vacation is based on the characters from the National Lampoon's Vacation films: Clark and Ellen Griswold and their two children, Rusty and Audrey. The family finds themselves encountering every possible mishap and misadventure on a series of road trips in the franchise. The new musical features a book, music, and lyrics by David Rossmer and Steve Rosen, and Donna Feore directs and choreographs.

The rest of the creative team includes scenic designer Jason Sherwood, costume designer Tina McCartney, lighting designer Jeff Croiter, sound designer Kai Harada, music superviser and additional arrangements by Greg Anthony Rassen, and music arranger Glen Kelly.
