The principal cast includes Andrew Durand, Taylor Iman Jones, Jeremy Kushnier, Bonnie Milligan, Tom Alan Robbins, Alexandra Socha, Rachel York, and “RuPaul’s Drag Race” star Peppermint, who will become the first trans-woman actress to ever create a principal role on Broadway, when she makes her Broadway debut this summer).
The ensemble includes Sharon Catherine Brown, Yurel Echezarreta, Lisa Finegold, Brian Flores, Ari Groover, Tanya Haglund, Arica Jackson, Gregory Liles, Gavin Lodge, Samantha Pollino, Justin Prescott, Tanner Ray Wilson, and Ricardo Zayas.
As previously announced, a pre-Broadway engagement will be staged at San Francisco's Curran Theater with new dates now running from April 10 through to May 6, 2018.
The musical showcases the greatest hits of the most successful all-female rock band of all time - The Go-Go's. Songs include “We Got the Beat,” “Get Up and Go,” “Cool Jerk,” “Vacation,” “Our Lips Are Sealed,” “Lust to Love,” “Head Over Heels,” as well as Belinda Carlisle’s solo hits “Mad About You” and “Heaven is a Place on Earth.” Originally comprised of Charlotte Caffey, Belinda Carlisle, Gina Schock, Jane Wiedlin and Kathy Valentine, the Go-Go's helped define the pop-rock sound of the early 1980's, making history as the first all-female band to top the Billboard charts, who not only wrote their own songs, but also played their own instruments live.
The Go-Go's previously released a joint statement saying: “If you told us 30 years ago that our songs were going to be in a musical, we’d have said ‘Of course they’ll be on Broadway!’ None of us would have really believed it though — what a crazy idea! Yet here we are, with Head Over Heels – a celebration of love in all its forms, joyful, fun and full of heart, driven by the songs that for decades have been making people jump from their seats and dance.”
Based upon The Arcadia by Sir Philip Sidney, Head Over Heels was conceived and features an original book by Tony Award winner Jeff Whitty, later adapted by James Magruder. Musical supervision, orchestrations and arrangements are provided by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner Tom Kitt. The production is directed by Tony Award winner Michael Mayer and choreographed by Emmy Award nominee Spencer Liff.
Synopsis: Described as "an Elizabethan love story turned on its head," Head Over Heels is a tantalizing odyssey wrought with mistaken identities, jealous lovers, romance and scandal. This lavishly quick witted new musical takes us on an extravagant journey where everything (and everyone) is not quite what it seems. What happens next?… Our lips are sealed!
The creative team also features scenic design by Tony Award nominee Julian Crouch, lighting design by four-time Tony Award winner Kevin Adams, costume design by Tony Award nominee Arianne Phillips, and sound design by Tony Award nominee Kai Harada.
The team of lead producers behind the musical comedy include Hollywood star Gwyneth Paltrow, as well as Rick Ferrari, Donovan Leitch, Christine Russell, Louise Gund, Hunter Arnold and Tom Kirdahy.
The world premiere of Head Over Heels was staged at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in the summer of 2016.
