The American premiere of Lucy Kirkwood's new drama begins performances on Broadway.
The American premiere of the Royal Court Theatre production of The Children, written by Lucy Kirkwood and directed by James Macdonald, begins previews at Manhattan Theatre Club's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on Broadway tonight. An official opening is set for December 12, 2017, ahead of a limited engagement through to February 4, 2018.
Synopsis: "In a remote cottage on the lonely British coast, a couple of retired nuclear engineers are living a very quiet life. Outside, the world is in utter chaos following a devastating series of events. When an old friend turns up at their door, they're shocked to discover the real reason for her visit."
The production features the original London cast, which includes BAFTA Award winner Francesca Annis (as Rose), Olivier Award nominee Ron Cook (as Robin), and Olivier Award winner Deborah Findlay (as Hazel).
The creative team behind The Children features scenic and costume design by Miriam Buether, lighting design by Peter Mumford, and sound design by Max Pappenheim.
The Children celebrated its world premiere at London's Royal Court Theatre in November 2016. The American premiere marks the Broadway debut for playwright Lucy Kirkwood.
