Scissor Sisters' frontman Jake Shears is the next star to step up and showcase the "Soul of a Man" as he makes his Broadway debut as Charlie Price in the Tony Award-winning musical Kinky Boots at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre tonight. He assumes the role from returning original cast member and Tony Award nominee Stark Sands, who played his final performance in the role yesterday.

Mr. Shears previously commented: "I have been dreaming of doing Broadway, and my wish got answered tenfold. I couldn't be more excited about doing Kinky Boots on Broadway; it's going to be a delicious challenge! Believe it or not, they're going to be the first stilettos I'll ever have worn. My feet are so big, I've never seen a pair that would actually fit me."

As a member of Scissor Sisters, Shears has released a total of four studio albums - "Scissor Sisters" (2004), "Ta-Dah" (2006), "Night Work" (2010), and "Magic Hour" (2012). He released his first solo single "Creep City" in October 2017 and previously co-wrote the score for the musical adaptation of Tales of the City, which premiered at the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco in 2011.

In addition, J. Harrison Ghee returns to the production and assumes the role of Lola from Tony Award winner Billy Porter, who also concluded his return engagement in the musical yesterday. As previously announced, Kristin Maldonado - singer from the hit a cappella group Pentatonix - will also join the cast and assume the role of Lauren from February 2 to April 8, 2018.

The principal cast of Kinky Boots currently includes Jake Shears (as Charlie Price), J. Harrison Ghee (as Lola), Delaney Westfall (as Lauren), Shannon O'Boyle (as Nicola), Daniel Stewart Sherman (as Don) and Marcus Neville (as George).

Kinky Boots officially opened at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre on April 4, 2013, following previews from March 3.

Based on the 2005 British comedy movie of the same name by Geoff Deane and Tim Firth, the musical features a book by Tony winner Harvey Fierstein, with music and lyrics by Grammy Award-winning artist Cyndi Lauper and is directed and choreographed by Tony winner Jerry Mitchell.

Synopsis: "Charlie Price is forced to step in and save his family's shoe factory in Northern England following the sudden death of his father. Help comes from the unlikeliest angel, a fabulous drag performer named Lola. Together, this improbable duo revitalizes the failing business, while stepping out from their fathers' shadows and transforming an entire community through the power of acceptance."

The creative team behind Kinky Boots features scenic design by David Rockwell, costume design by Gregg Barnes, lighting design by Kenneth Posner and sound design by John Shivers.

The production was nominated for a total of 13 Tony Awards, of which it won six: "Best Musical," "Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical" (for Billy Porter), "Best Original Score" (for Cyndi Lauper), "Best Choreography" (for Jerry Mitchell), "Best Orchestrations" (for Stephen Oremus), and "Best Sound Design" (for John Shivers).

Kinky Boots is produced on Broadway by Daryl Roth and Hal Luftig.

Kinky Boots Tickets are available now for performances through to August 26, 2018.
