Roundabout Theatre Company presents world premiere musical Scotland, PA
Scotland, PA begins performances at the Laura Pels Theatre on September 14, 2019.
Roundabout Theatre Company presents the world premiere musical Scotland, PA, featuring a book by Michael Mitnick and music & lyrics by Adam Gwon, based on the film written by Billy Morrissette and inspired by William Shakespeare's The Tragedy of Macbeth.
Previews begin at the Laura Pels Theatre on September 14, 2019, ahead of an official opening on October 15.
The production will be directed by Lonny Price, choreographed by Josh Rhodes and will feature music direction by Vadim Feichtner.
Synopsis: "In Scotland, PA, revenge is a dish best served with fries. This deliciously dark new musical comedy, based on the cult film (and the bard's Macbeth), springs to life in a sleepy Pennsylvania town (population 1,203—and dropping), where a burger-joint manager and his wife cook up a plan to super-size their lives. As their ambitions grow and the bodies fall, the couple finds out just how far they’ll go for a taste of the oh-so-tempting American dream."
Casting and additional creative team information will be announced at a later date.
Scotland, PA was commissioned by Roundabout following Adam Gwon's premiere of Ordinary Days in 2009 and has been in the development stages of readings and workshops at Roundabout since 2014. The production will also mark the first new musical at the Laura Pels Theatre since 2011's Death Takes a Holiday.
The original film "Scotland, PA" was released in 2001, starring James LeGros, Maura Tierney, and Christopher Walken, and was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival.
