The Public Theater has now announced complete casting for the upcoming New York premiere of Mojada, written by Luis Alfaro and directed by Obie Award winner Chay Yew, which is scheduled to begin previews at the Public's LuEsther Hall on July 2, 2019, ahead of an official opening on July 17 and a limited engagement through August 11, 2019.

The cast of Mojada features Vanessa Aspillaga (as Josefina), Alex Hernandez (as Jason), Ada Maris (as Armida), Benjamin Luis McCracken (as Acan), Socorro Santiago (as Tita), and Sabina Zúñiga Varela (as Medea).

Synopsis: "Mojada is a stirring drama about love, immigration, and sacrifice, inspired by the Ancient Greek story of Medea. This play masterfully combines ancient storytelling with the most pressing issues facing our country today, following a young Mexican mother who gives up everything to bring her son to America, only to find America demands even more. With great poetry, humor, and heart, Mojada is a bold new telling of a story as old as tragedy itself."

The creative team behind Mojada features scenic design by Arnulfo Maldonado, costume design by Haydee Zelideth, lighting design by David Weiner, sound design by Mikhail Fiksel, projection design by Stephen Mazurek, and fight direction by UnkleDave's Fight-House.

Playwright Luis Alfaro and director Chay Yew's last collaboration at the Public Theater was the New York premiere Oedipus El Rey, a critically acclaimed variation on the Greek tragedy Oedipus Rex, staged in the fall of 2017.
