Outer Critics Circle 2009 - 2010 winners announced



The winners of the Outer Critics Circle, the organization of writers and commentators covering New York theater for out-of-town newspapers, were announced on 17 May 2010.

The Award for Outstanding New Broadway Musical was won by 'Memphis' which also won in three other categories, and the Award for Outstanding Revival of a Musical (Broadway or Off-broadway) went to La Cage Aux Folles. which also won in three other categories. These two shows were the most decorated winners this year, with each winning four Awards each.

John Logan's drama 'Red' won the coveted Outstanding New Broadway Play AWard. Though the Broadway revival of August Wilson's Fences, starring Denzel Washington and Viola Davis, was the most decorated play, winning three awards including Outstanding Revival of a Play.

Horton Foote's 'The Orphans' Home Cycle' was announced winner of the Outstanding New Off-Broadway Play Award, with 'Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson and The Scottsboro Boys sharing the award for Outstanding New Off-Broadway Musical.

As previously announced, the cast of the hit comedy "God of Carnage" --- Dylan Baker, Jeff Daniels, Lucy Liu and Janet McTeer will serve as presenters at the organization's 60th Annual Award ceremony on 27 May 2010 at Sardi's Restaurant (234 West 44th Street).

Celebrating its 60th season of bestowing awards of excellence in the field of theatre, the Outer Critics Circle, is an association with members affiliated with more than ninety newspapers, magazines, web sites, radio and television stations, and theatre publications in America and abroad.
