New edition of Forbidden Broadway to open at the Triad Theatre

Forbidden Broadway: The Next Generation is playing at the Triad Theatre from September 18.

Forbidden Broadway is set to return to New York after a five-year absence with a brand new edition at the Triad Theatre for a ten-week limited engagement from September 18.

Titled 'The Next Generation', Gerard Alessandrini's latest iteration of the franchise will be inspired by Broadway's latest crop of musicals, such as Dear Evan Hansen, Frozen, Hadestown, Hamilton, Waitress, Beetlejuice, Moulin Rouge, Fiddler on the Roof, and more.

It will run at the Triad Theatre from September 18 to November 30, with an official opening night set for October 16.

On announcing the production, creator of Forbidden Broadway, Gerard Alessandrini, said: "Ever since Hamilton re-energized us, there's been a deluge of great new shows of every type that I can have fun with. I haven't been this excited about writing this show since the first Forbidden Broadway edition in 1982, when I had decades of productions to write about. Now I have a whole new palette in front of me."

The production will also spoof productions such as this season's revival of Oklahoma!, Jez Butterworth's play The Ferryman, musical Tootise, and What the Constitution Means to Me as well as a host of theatre stars such as Ben Platt, Billy Porter, Santino Fontana, Karen Olivio, Alex Brightman and exciting turns by Bette Midler, Andre de Shields, Bernadette Peters, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and several surprises.

Casting for Forbidden Broadway: The Next Generation will be announced soon.
