MCC Theater announces complete cast for New York premiere of BLKS
BLKS begins performances at the Robert W. Wilson MCC Theater Space on April 20, 2019.
MCC Theater has now announced complete casting for its upcoming New York premiere of BLKS, a playwriting debut by poet Aziza Barnes to be directed by Robert O'Hara, which is scheduled to begin previews at The Newman Mills Theater (within the Robert W. Wilson MCC Theater Space) on April 20, 2019, ahead of an official opening on May 9 and a limited engagement through to May 26, 2019.
The cast of BLKS includes (in alphabetical order) Marié Botha (as That Bitch on the Couch), Antoinette Croew-Legacy (as June), Alfie Fuller (as Imani), Paige Gilbert (as Octavia), Chris Myers (as Justin), and Coral Peňa (as Ry).
Synopsis: "When shit goes down, your girls show up. As sharply funny as it is poignant, BLKS introduces us to Octavia, Imani, and June – three twenty somethings in New York City hunting for intimacy and purpose in a city that doesn’t seem to care. They drink a lot. They smoke a lot. They try to have sex. A lot. When they need each other the most, the women rally to “resurrect their fly” in a day full of humorous and painful attempts to be heard through the noise that surrounds them."
The creative team behind BLKS features scenic design by Clint Ramos, costume design by Dede Ayite, lighting design by Alex Jainchill, sound design by Palmer Hefferan.
The world premiere of BLKS was previously staged at Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre Company.
MCC Theater's current world premiere musical Alice By Heart continues at The Newman Mills Theater through to April 7, 2019, whilst the New York premiere of The Light continues at The Susan and Ronald Frankel Theater through to March 17, 2019.
