Lysistrata Jones to close on 8 Jan 2012



The Broadway premiere of the new musical comedy Lysistrata Jones, has posted early closing notices and will play its final perfromance on 8 Jan 2012 after 34 previews and 30 regular performances.

The musical, which opened at the Walter Kerr Theatre on 14 Dec 2011, following previews from 12 Nov 2011, had been selling tickets through to 25 Mar 2012.

The show opened to mostly mostly good reviews: Endearingly escapist show (Y Times); A little musical with big energy (NY Daily News); Sharp and sassy (Back Stage); Infectiously clever and tuneful little musical comedy (NY1). Though newyorktheatreguide.com reviewer Tulis McCall was not impressed with the musical calling it a "Waste of talent & time!"

The Athens University basketball team hasn't won a game in 30 years. But when spunky transfer student Lysistrata Jones dares the squad's fed-up girlfriends to stop "giving it up" to their boyfriends until they win a game, their legendary losing streak could be coming to an end.

Lysistrata Jones is written by Tony nominated Douglas Carter Beane (Sister Act, Xanadu, The Little Dog Laughed) and composer/lyricist Lewis Flinn, and is directed and choreographed by Tony nominee Dan Knechtges (Xanadu).

The musical stars Patti Murin (Lysistrata Jones), Liz Mikel (Hetaira), Josh Segarra (Mick), Jason Tam (Xander) and Lindsay Nicole Chambers (Robin), with Alexander Aguilar (Uardo), Ato Blankson-Wood (Tyllus), Katie Boren (Lampito), Kat Nejat (Cleonice), LaQuet Sharnell (Mhyrinne), Teddy Toye (Harold) and Alex Wyse (Cinesius).

The creative team features set design by Allen Moyer, costume design is by David C. Woolard and Thomas LeGalley, lighting by Michael Gottlieb and sound by Tony Meola.

The Transport Group presented an Off-Broadway production of Lysistrata Jones at the Gym at Judson Memorial Church, earlier this year from 15 May - 24 Jun 2011. The Off-Broadway production's cast and creative team are all reprising their work on Broadway.

The musical comedy, originally titled 'Give It Up!,' had it's world premiere at the Dallas Theater Center in Dallas, TX in January, 2010, where .
