Honeymoon in Vegas looks set for Broadway

The New York Post reports that a stage adaptation of the 1992 Nicolas Cage film, Honeymoon in Vegas, may be heading to Broadway during the 2012-2013 season.

The musical comedy, written by composer Jason Robert Brown (Parade), with a libretto by Andrew Bergman - who both directed and wrote the screenplay for the 1992 movie - tells the story of Jack Singer, whom has a result of a promise made to his dying mother never to get married as serious issues around commitment.

When Jack finally decides to commit, he and his girlfriend Betsy go to Vegas to get hitched. In Vegas Jack loses $65,000 dollars to professional gambler Tommy Korman. Korman promises to erase the debt if he can spend the weekend with Singer's fiancée, who reminds him of his dead wife. Chaos ensues as Jack and Betsy remain determied to get married, despite all obstacles!

A reading of the musical took place last week, directed by Gary Griffin (The Color Purple). The reading featured T.R. Knight ('Grey's Anatomy') as 'Jack Singer,' Mary Faber (Avenue Q) as 'Betsy,' and Tony Danza as 'Tommy Kormanas'.

The Broadway capitalization for Honeymoon in Vegas will be around $10 million. The musical is to be produced on Broadway by Dena Hammerstein.

There has been no official announcement.
