Tony Award-winning director David Cromer is set to make a return to acting this fall, completing the cast of the previously announced Broadway premiere of Oscar winner Kenneth Lonergan's 2001 Pulitzer Prize Finalist memory play The Waverly Gallery. He takes on the role of Howard Fine and joins a cast that includes Elaine May, one half of the legendary comedy duo, Nichols and May, as Gladys Green, Oscar nominee Lucas Hedges (as Daniel Reed), Tony Award nominee Michael Cera (as Don Bowman), and 3-time Oscar nominee Joan Allen (as Ellen Fine).

As a director, Mr. Cromer took home the Tony Award earlier this year in the category of "Best Direction of a Musical" for The Band's Visit. He also helmed the 2011 Broadway revival of The House of Blue Leaves and the 2009 Broadway revival of Brighton Beach Memoirs, alongside a dozen off-Broadway credits that have garnered multiple Drama Desk, Obie and Lucille Lortel Awards over the years. As an actor, he has performed on the Great White Way in A Raisin in the Sun in 2014 and off-Broadway in the 2009 production of Our Town at the Barrow Street Theatre, which he also directed.

The Waverly Gallery begins previews at the Golden Theatre on September 25, 2018, ahead of an official opening on October 25 and a limited engagement through to January 27, 2019.

Synopsis: "The Waverly Gallery is about the final years of a generous, chatty, and feisty grandmother's final battle against Alzheimer's disease. Gladys is an old-school lefty and social activist and longtime owner of a small art gallery in Greenwich Village. The play explores her fight to retain her independence and the subsequent effect of her decline on her family, especially her grandson. More than a memory play, The Waverly Gallery captures the humor and strength of a family in the face of crisis."

Under the direction of Drama Desk and Obie Award winner Lila Neugebauer (who will be making her Broadway debut with the production), the creative team features scenic design by Tony Award winner David Zinn, costume design by Tony & Academy Award winner Ann Roth, and lighting design by five-time Tony Award winner Brian MacDevitt.

The Waverly Gallery staged its world premiere in August 1999 at the Williamstown Theatre Festival in August 1999, and subsequently transferred to Off-Broadway's Promenade Theatre in March 2000. The Broadway premiere is produced by Scott Rudin.

The Waverly Gallery Tickets are available now for performances from September 25, 2018 through to January 27, 2019.
