Bye Bye Birdie: Roundabout announce more cast. Nolan Gerard Funk to make Broadway debut



Roundabout Theatre Company have announced further casting for their presentation of the first new Broadway production of Bye Bye Birdie as the inaugural production of the new Henry Miller�s Theatre beginning prevews on 10 Sep 2009 with an official opening on 15 Oct 2009. This will be a limited engagement through January 10th, 2010.

Joining the previously announced stars, John Stamos (Albert Peterson), Gina Gershon (Rose Alvarez), Bill Irwin (Mr. Harry MacAfee) and Jayne Houdyshell (Mrs. Mae Peterson), is Dee Hoty (Mrs. MacAfee).

The cast will also feature Matt Doyle (Hugo Peabody), Molly Ephraim (Ursula Merkle), Jake Evan Schwencke (Randolph MacAfee), Allie Trimm (Kim MacAfee) and as 'Conrad Birdie' Nolan Gerard Funk.

Additional company members and citizens of Sweet Apple, Ohio will be announced shortly.

Directed & choreographed by Robert Longbottom, Bye Bye Birdie has a book by Michael Stewart, lyrics by Lee Adams and music by Charles Strouse.

Bye Bye Birdie design team includes Andrew Jackness (Sets), Gregg Barnes (Costumes), Ken Billington (Lights), Acme Sound (Sound) and David Chase (Music Supervisor).

In Bye Bye Birdie, the exuberant rock n� roll musical comedy, it�s 1960 and hip-swingin� teen idol superstar Conrad Birdie (Nolan Gerard Funk) has been drafted into the army. Birdie's manager Albert (John Stamos) and his secretary Rosie (Gina Gershon) have cooked up a plan to send him off with a swell new song and one last kiss from a lucky teenage fan� on �The Ed Sullivan Show�!

Bye Bye Birdie received the 1961 Tony Award for Best Musical and features the songs �Put on A Happy Face,� �Kids,� �Spanish Rose,� �The Telephone Hour� and �A Lot of Livin� To Do.�

John Stamos was most recently featured on the final three seasons of NBC�s critically acclaimed drama 'ER.' After three appearances on Broadway - in Roundabout�s Tony Award winning 'Cabaret,' 'Nine' and 'How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying' � Bye Bye Birdie will mark the first time Stamos originates a role in a new Broadway production.

Gina Gershon was most recently seen last season in the Tony Award winning play 'Boeing Boeing.' Gershon made her Broadway musical debut as 'Sally Bowles' in Roundabout�s production of 'Cabaret.'



Bill Irwin is currently starring on Broadway in Roundabout�s production of 'Waiting for Godot' which marks his return to Broadway after his 2005 Tony Award for 'Who�s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?'



Jayne Houdyshell returns to Broadway after appearing in the musical 'Wicked' and the 2006 production of 'Well.' Houdyshell is to star in the Off-Broadway production of the musical 'Coraline' playing at the Lucille Lortel Theatre from 7 May - 20 Jun.

Dee Hoty (Mrs. MacAfee), has been nominated for Tony's for her roles in 'Footloose' (Vi Moore: 1998); 'The Best Little Whorehouse Goes Public' (Mona Stangley: 1994) and 'The Will Rogers Follies' (Betty Blake: 1991). She was last seen on Broadway when she played 'Donna Sheridan' in 'Mamma Mia!.'

Nolan Gerrard Funk (Conrad Birdie) is making his Broadway debut. Funk is best known to family audiences for his starring role as 'Nikko' in the Columbia Records/Nickelodeon movie 'Spectacular!.' Nickelodeon premiered Spectacular! in February 2009 and over 14 million viewers watched the first week it aired in the United States.

Matt Doyle (Hugo Peabody) made his Broadway debut in 'Spring Awakening' (Melchior/Hanschen - replacement: 2006). He also starred in the National Tour of Spring Awakening.

Molly Ephraim's (Ursula Merkle) Broadway creaits are 'Fiddler on the Roof' (Bielke: 2004 revival) and 'Into the Woods' (Little Red Ridinghood: 2002 revival).



Jake Evan Schwencke (Randolph MacAfee), 10 is thrilled to be playing 'Randolph' in the new production of Bye Bye Birdie. He recently understudied the role of 'Jesse' in the Off-Broadway production of Distracted.' He has been on the National Tour of 'Les Miserables' and 'Whistle Down the Wind.' Jake is the voice of the Hippo and the Turtle in the 20th Century feature film Ice Age III.

Allie Trimm (Kim MacAfee) made her Broadway debut in Jason Robert Brown�s '13, the Musical' in the role of 'Patrice.'
