Betty Boop: new musical aims for Broadway bow in 2010 - 2011 season
Ostar Productions have announced that they plan to bring Betty Boop, a new musical featuring a score by Canadian pop composer David Foster, with book by Sally Robinson and Oscar Williams. No director has been announced.
The show is expected to play at a Nederlander theatre, to be announced, on Broadway during the 2010 - 2011 Broadway season.
In the new musical, the inimitable Betty Boop joins her friends Bimbo and Koko to work her irresistible charm in reuniting her grandfather (who has created the Greatest Invention of Mankind) with the long-lost, true love of his life, while saving the Happy Heart Theater from the developer's bulldozers.
The cartoon character, Betty Boop, was created by Max Fleischer and Fleisher Studios for in a series of cartoons during the 1930s. Many believed the cartoon character was based upon the singer Helen Kane (1903 ï¿½ September 26, 1966), who bought an unsuccessful lawsuit against Max Fleischer for the 'deliberate caricature' of her perdonality and image, which she lost.
