Yolanda Adams will join the cast of Hell's Kitchen on Broadway at the Shubert Theatre, playing the role of Miss Liza Jane in Alicia Keys's musical.

The role was originated by Kecia Lewis, who won Tony and Grammy Awards for her performance and will depart the show on December 13. Adams will play a limited run from November 21 to January 25; she and Lewis will initially alternate as Miss Liza Jane, and Adams steps into the role full-time on December 16.

Adams makes her Broadway acting debut with Hell's Kitchen; she previously contributed original music to the SpongeBob SquarePants Broadway musical. She is best known for her celebrated career as a gospel singer, winning four Grammy Awards and becoming the first person to win the American Music Award for Contemporary Gospel Artist, among numerous other accolades.

“Performing on Broadway has always been a dream of mine,” said Adams in a statement. “Growing up a musician, Miss Liza Jane reminds me of a wonderful mentor that blessed my life immensely. Alicia Keys has crafted an amazing story that exemplifies how we are all connected in one way or another. This show feels like home!"

“I am beyond excited to welcome one of the greats across the globe, Yolanda Adams, to the Hell’s Kitchen family,” said Keys in a statement. “Her singular, extraordinary voice and undeniable presence will bring great power, light and emotion to the role of Miss Liza Jane, a role created so beautifully by Kecia Lewis. Her authenticity and heart perfectly embody the soul of this story and we are excited for audiences to witness her artistry.”

Set to Alicia Keys's hit songs and loosely inspired by her upbringing in the title Manhattan neighborhood, Hell’s Kitchen follows 17-year-old Ali as she discovers herself, her independence, and her passion for music.
