Women on the Verge... plays final performance
Lincoln Center Theater's production of the new musical Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown plays its final performance on 2 Jan 2011, having played 30 previews and 69 regular performances.
Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown opened at the Belasco Theatre on 4 Nov 2010, following previews from 8 Oct 2010. The musical was originally scheduled to run through to 23 Jan 2011.
The musical opened to mixed, but mostly poor reviews: Feels hopelessly distracted (NY Times); A big, fun Technicolor mess (NY Post); "Major Broadway letdown (TONY); A saucy, splashy and mighty tasty musical comedy (Newsroom Jersey).
The new Broadway musical Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown is based on the film by Pedro Almodóvar, with a book by Jeffrey Lane, music and lyrics by David Yazbek, direction by Bartlett Sher and produced by Lincoln Center Theater.
Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown is based on the 1988 Spanish comedy of the same name - Pepa's lover leaves her and she wants to know why. She seeks out his wife and son, but they have no answers. Meanwhile Pepa's girlfriend believes the police want to question Pepa because of her former lover's criminal activities. They decide to engage a lawyer, who unknown to them is the lover's new lover...
The show will star de'Adre Aziza, Laura Benanti, Danny Burstein, Nikka Graff Lanzarone, Justin Guarini, Patti LuPone, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Mary Beth Peil and Sherie Rene Scott.
The creative team features choreography by Christopher Gattelli, set design by Michael Yeargan, costumes by Catherine Zuber, lighting by Brian MacDevitt and sound by Scott Lehrer.
