According to the New York Post, it is looking like Oscar winner Colin Firth might indeed play Henry Higgins in a Broadway-bound revival of classic musical My Fair Lady. This would mark Firth's Broadway debut.

James Nederlander Sr. reportedly told the Post:

"Colin Firth is already set. The female isn't cast yet."

Previous speculation on which actress may play the iconic role of Eliza Doolittle have included such names as Tony nominee Carey Mulligan (who is currently starring alongside Bill Nighy on Broadway in Skylight) and Oscar winner Anne Hathaway who just recently completed a limited engagement in 'Grounded' at the Public Theater.

The Bartlett Sher-helmed production was originally aiming for a 2014 Broadway opening, and there is yet to be an official announcement on casting, dates and a theatre.

My Fair Lady features music by Frederick Loewe and a book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner. The musical first premiered on Broadway on 15 March 1956 and starred Dame Julie Andrews and Rex Harrison. The production won six Tony Awards including Best Musical. It has since enjoyed three Broadway revivals - 1976, 1981 and 1993. The film adaptation was released in 1964, starring Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison, and won a total of 8 oscars with 4 further nominations.

Colin Firth made his West End debut in the 1983 production of 'Another Country.' He won an Oscar in 2011 for 'The King's Speech' and was nominated in 2010 for 'A Single Man.' He also earned an Emmy nomination in 2001 for 'Conspiracy.' He has won 2 BAFTA Awards (for 'The King's Speech' and 'A Single Man') and received three further nominations for 'Bridget Jones's Diary' in 2002, 'Pride and Prejudice' in 1996, and 'Tumbledown' in 1989. Other screen credits include 'Kingsman: The Secret Service,' 'Love Actually,' 'Magic in the Moonlight,' 'The Railway Man,' 'Gambit,' 'Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy,' 'Then She Found Me,' 'Nanny McPhee,' 'Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason,' 'Girl with a Pearl Earring,' 'The Importance of Being Earnest,' 'Shakespeare in Love,' and 'The English Patient,' amongst many others. He made his musical debut in the 2008 movie musical 'Mamma Mia!'
