Wicked: Rondi Reed plays 'Madame Morrible'

 

Tony Award-winner Rondi Reed assumes the role of 'Madame Morrible' from 17 Mar 2009 in the Broadway musical Wicked. Reed was the original Morrible in the Chicago production of the musical.

She assumes the role from Jayne Houdyshell who has left the production to prepare for her starring role in the new off-Broadway musical 'Coraline.'

Reed received a Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play for her performance as 'Mattie Fae Aiken' in the Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning 'August: Osage County.' She has also appeared on Broadway in 'The Rise and Fall of Little Voice' (Mari Hoff: 1994) and 'The Grapes of Wrath' (Mrs. Wainwright: 1990). Reed is an ensemble member of Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre Company.

Wicked now features Nicole Parker (Elphaba), Alli Mauzey (Glinda), P.J. Benjamin (The Wizard), Rondi Reed (Madame Morrible), Aaron Tveit (Fiyero), Brynn O'malley (Nessarose), Timothy Britten Parker (Doctor Dillamond) and Alex Brightman (Boq).

Wicked, now in its sixth year on Broadway, opened at the Gershwin Theatre on the 30 Oct 2003, following previews from 8 Oct 2003, where it is currently booking through to 3 Jan 2010.

Long before Dorothy drops in, two other girls meet in the land of Oz. One, born with emerald-green skin, is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. Wicked tells the story of their remarkable odyssey, how these two unlikely friends grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch.

Wicked has music & lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, book by Winnie Holzman, based on the novel by Gregory Maguire.

The musical is directed by Joe Mantello, with choreography by James Lynn Abbott, scene design by Eugene Lee, costumes by Susan Hilferty, lighting by Kenneth Posner and sound by Tony Meola.
