'Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf?' to close on the 4 Sep 2005

Edward Albee's Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf? is to conclude its engagement at Longacre Theatre on the 4 Sep 2005. The play will have played 8 previews and 176 performances at the Longacre when it closes.

Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf? began previews on the 12 Mar 2005, and opened on the 20 Mar 2005.

A night of fun and drinks for two college professors (one old, one new) and their wives turns into an emotional and psychological nightmare. A caustic look at marriage and relationships.

Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf? stars Kathleen Turner as Martha and Bill Irwin -- who won a 2005 Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play -- as George, as well as David Harbour as Nick and Mireille Enos as Honey, and is directed by Anthony Page.

Each member of the cast received a 2005 Tony Award nomination, in addition to Tony nominations for the production in the 'Best Revival of a Play' category, and 'Best Costume Design for a Play' for designer Jane Greenwood.

The play opened to excellent notices from the press, Ben Brentley of the New York Times described the play as a Pulse-racing revival, and Michael Sommers of the Star-Ledger said "It's a savagely funny event in three knockout rounds." Our own reviewer Polly Wittenberg wrote "go see Turner and Irwin slug it out at the Longacre". To read the rest of Polly's review click here
