Vanya and Sonia...: Lincoln Center announces cast

Lincoln Center Theater has announced the cast for their New York Premiere production of Christopher Durang's Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, opening at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater on 12 Nov 2012, following previews from 25 Oct 2012.

Directed by Nicholas Martin, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike will star Genevieve Angelson (Nina), Shalita Grant (Cassandra), Billy Magnussen (Spike), Kristine Nielsen (Sonia), David Hyde Pierce (Vanya) and Sigourney Weaver (Masha).

Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike is set in present day Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Vanya and his stepsister Sonia have lived their entire lives in their family's farmhouse. While they stayed home to take care of their ailing parents, their sister Masha has been gallivanting around the world as a successful actress and movie star, leaving Vanya and Sonia to feel trapped and regretful. Their soothsayer/cleaning woman Cassandra keeps warning them about terrible things in the future, which include a sudden visit from Masha and her twenty-something boy toy Spike.

The play is being presented by Lincoln Center Theater in association with the McCarter Theatre, where it was commissioned and will run from 7 Sep - 7 Oct 2012, prior to beginning performances in New York.

Playwright Christopher Durang was nominated for the 2006 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for his play 'Miss Witherspoon,' and was nomianted for a Tony for his book for the musical 'A History of the American Film.' Other plays by Durang include 'Beyond Therapy,' 'Sex and Longing' and 'All About Me.'

Director Nicholas Martin's LCT credits include 'Saturn Returns,' 'The New Century,' 'Observe The Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme,' 'The Time of the Cuckoo' and 'Chaucer in Rome.' He 's collaborated with Christopher Durang on 'Why Torture Is Wrong, and the People Who Love Them' and 'Betty's Summer Vacation' (Obie Award).
