Ugly Betty America Ferrera in Lips Together, Teeth Apart


Second Stage Theatre's have announced the complete for their revival of Terrence McNally's Lips Together, Teeth Apart, opening at the Tony Kiser Theatre on 5 Nov 2014, following previews from 7 Oct 2014, and closing on 23 Nov 2014.

America Ferrera, best known for her Primetime Emmy Award winning role as "Betty Suarez" in the TV comedy "Ugly Betty", will play the role of 'Sally', joined by Michael Chernus as 'Sam', Tracee Chimo as 'Chloe' and Austin Lysy as 'John'.

The play is set on Fire Island on the 4th of July Holiday. As a brother and sister and their spouses spend the weekend in a typical summer getaway, they are unable to enjoy themselves fully due to their prejudices and insecurities. Whilst the grill is fired up, the drinks are cold and the pool is open but no one is going in...

Lips Together, Teeth Apart has not been produced in New York for over 23 years. This new production will be directed by Peter DuBois, who returns to Second Stage after directing previous productions of 'Becky Shaw', 'Trust', 'All New People' and 'Modern Terrorism'.

America Ferrera's previous stage appearances include the Off-Broadway productions of 'Dog Sees God' and 'Bethany' at The Women's Project. She has also appeared in the West End as Roxie Hart in 'Chicago'. Ferrera came to worldwide attention playing Betty Suarez in the ABC "Ugly Betty" and she has also appeared in numerous films, including "Cesar Chavez", "The Dry Land", "End of Watch", "It's a Disaster", "Our Family Wedding", "How To Train Your Dragon" (as well as its sequel), "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" (plus sequel), "Under The Same Moon", "Steel City", "Lords of Dogtown", "How the Garcia Girls Spent Their Summer" and "Real Women Have Curves".

Michael Chernus has previously appeared on stage in the Public Theater's production of 'In the Wake'. He also starred opposite David Hyde Pierce at MTC in 'Close Up Space'. Chernus's film appearances include "Captain Phillips", "The Bourne Legacy", "Men in Black 3" and "Love and Other Drugs". On television, he is a series regular in "Manhattan" on WGN-America.

Tracee Chimo has appeared on Broadway in 'Harvey' and 'Irena's Vow'. She returns to Second Stage Theater where she originated the role of Regan in Leslye Headland's 'Bachelorette'. On television, Tracee Chimo plays Neri Feldman on Netflix's "Orange is the New Black" and Chrissy Quinn on "The Good Wife." Film appearances include "The Five Year Engagement" and "Side Effects".

Austin Lysy returns to Second Stage Theatre where he appeared in 'The Water's Edge'. He has appeared on Broadway in 'The American Plan' and 'Macbeth'. Lysy has appeared in many Off-Broadway productions, including 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' (Public-NYSF), 'All That I Will Ever Be' (NYTW), 'Manic Flight Reaction' and 'Other People' (Playwrights Horizons) and 'Hobson's Choice' (Atlantic). Television appearances include "Elementary", "The Good Wife", "CSI:NY", "Law & Order: SVU", "Gossip Girl", "Law & Order" and his film credits include "And So It Goes", "Arbitrage", "Five Days Gone", "The Company Men", "Everybody's Fine", "Poster Boy", "Hitch", "Brooklyn Lobster" and "Perfume".
