Tony Awards: Sean Hayes to host ceremony
Emmy and SAG Award-winner Sean Hayes, who received a 2010 Tony Award nomination for his performance in Promises, Promises, will host the American Theatre Wing's 64th Annual Antoinette Perry "Tony" Awards ceremony on 13 Jun 2010, live from Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
"I am absolutely thrilled to be hosting the Tony Awards," said Hayes. "As the new guy on Broadway, it's an honor to be included in the established alumni."
Hayes made his New York stage debut in 'Damn Yankees' at City Center Encores. His films include 'The Bucket List,' 'Pieces of April,' 'The Cat in the Hat' (as the voice of the Fish), 'Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss,' and 'Cats and Dogs' (as the voice of Mr. Tinkles). He has won four Screen Actors Guild Awards, a TV Guide Award and an American Comedy Award. Hayes won an Emmy (and was nominated six times) for his portrayal of 'Jack' on 'Will & Grace.' He starred as 'Jerry Lewis' in the television movie "Martin & Lewis."
Hayes can currently be seen in the first Broadway revival of Promises, Promises alongside Kristin Chenoweth. For his performance, Hayes has received a Tony Award nomination for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical, as well as nominations from the Drama League and the Outer Critics Circle.
"We couldn't be more excited about Sean carrying on the tradition of excellent hosts for the Tony Awards," said Executive Producer Glenn Weiss. "Sean's humor, charm and natural ability on the stage will make an already great show even better."
The Tony Awards, which are presented by The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing, are bestowed annually on theatre professionals for distinguished achievement on Broadway.
