Time Stands Still returns to Broadway in Sep
Manhattan Theatre Club's production of Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Donald Margulies' Time Stands Still, which yesterday received a Tony nomination for Best Play, will return to Broadway in the fall at a Shubert theatre to be announced.
Directed by Tony Award winner Daniel Sullivan, the drama will star original cast members: Laura Linney, Brian d'Arcy James and Eric Bogosian.
Alicia Silverstone, who created the role of 'Mandy' on Broadway will not be able to continue with the production due to previously scheduled commitments. Casting for the role of 'Mandy' will be announced in the coming weeks.
Time Stands Still, which enjoyed an extended sold-out run at Manhattan Theatre Club's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre this spring, will resume performances on 23 Sep 2010. Tickets for the production will go on sale on 31 May 2010.
The production is on hiatus until the fall to accommodate Linney's commitment to her new Showtime series "The Big C" which is now in production and will premiere 16 Aug 2010.
Time Stands Still opened at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on 28 Jan 2010, following previews from 5 Jan, where it played an extended engagement through to 27 Mar 2010.
The played opened to mostly positive reviews: A flawless ... production (NY Times); Journey holds our interest, destination is disappointing (Backstage); A major... dramatic experience (Record); Smart, stylish, timely (AP).
Yesterday, the production was honored with two Tony Award nominations: Best Play, and Best Leading Actress in a Play (Laura Linney).
Time Stands Still: Are we supposed to deny ourselves ordinary happiness because there's misery in the world? James and Sarah (Linney), a journalist and a photographer, have been together for nine years and share a passion for documenting the realities of war. But when injuries force them to return home to New York, the adventurous couple confronts the prospect of a more conventional life.
The transfer of Time Stands Still will be produced by Manhattan Theatre Club Productions, Inc. (Lynne Meadow, Artistic Director; Barry Grove Executive Producer), Nelle Nugent, Bud Martin, Ted Snowden, and Wendy Federman.
The creative team includes John Lee Beatty (scenic design), Rita Ryack (costume design), Peter Kaczorowski (lighting design), Darron L West (sound design), Peter Golub (original music), and Thomas Schall (fight direction).
