Producers of the Olivier Award-winning hit comedy The Play That Goes Wrong have now confirmed that the Broadway production will close on August 26, 2018 at the Lyceum Theatre, prior to the National Tour beginning in September.

They released the following statement: "Having made audiences weep with laughter in New York, we feel that it is our most solemn duty to make them cry with laughter all the way across America."

The Play That Goes Wrong began previews at Broadway's Lyceum Theatre on March 9, 2017, and officially opened on April 2.

The comedy is co-written by Mischief Theatre company and original cast members Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer and Henry Shields.

Synopsis: "The Play That Goes Wrong is a riotous comedy about the theatre. The play introduces The 'Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society' who are attempting to put on a 1920s' murder mystery, but as the title suggests, everything that can go wrong...does, as the accident prone thespians battle on against all the odds to get to their final curtain call."

The Broadway cast currently includes Preston Truman Boyd (as Robert), Ashley Bryant (as Annie), Mark Evans (as Chris), Jonathan Fielding (as Jonathan), Alex Mandell (as Max), Amelia McClain (as Sandra), Harrison Unger (as Dennis), and Akron Watson (as Trevor), with Ned Noyes, Ashley Reyes, Katie Sexton, and Quinn Van Antwerp.

Under the direction of Mark Bell, the creative team features scenic design by Nigel Hook, costume design by Roberto Surace, lighting design by Ric Mountjoy, and sound design by Andy Johnson.

The Play That Goes Wrong is produced on Broadway by Kevin McCollum, J. J. Abrams, Kenny Wax, Stage Presence Ltd. and Catherine Schreiber.

Having begun its life on the London fringe in front of only four paying members of the public, the play eventually went on to transfer to the West End and win the Olivier Award for Best Comedy in 2015. The Broadway production received the Tony Award for "Best Scenic Design of a Play" and Broadway.com's Audience Choice Award for "Best Play".

The Play That Goes Wrong Tickets are available for performances through to August 26, 2018.
