The Other Place: Bill Pullman plays Ian

Bill Pullman ("1600 Penn" 'The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia?') joins the cast of Manhattan Theatre Club's Broadway premiere of The Other Place on 5 Feb 2013 at MTC's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre.

Pullman assumes the role of 'Ian,' from original cast member Daniel Stern who played his final performance on 3 Feb 2013. Stern is leaving the production due to family matters in California that require his early departure from the show.

Pullman is a stage, television and film actor, and currently can be seen in NBC's first family comedy "1600 Penn." His stage performances include his Drama Desk-nominated performances in two Edward Albee works: 'The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia?' (Broadway) and 'Peter & Jerry' (Off-Broadway). He most recently appeared on Broadway in the revival of David Mamet's 'Oleanna' opposite Julia Stiles.

The Other Place, directed by Joe Mantello, and starring Laurie Metcalf, opened at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on 10 Jan 2013, following previews from 11 Dec 2012, and is running through to 03 Mar 2013.

The Other Place opened to mostly excellent reviews: Pretty close to heartbreaking (NY Times); Bracing production (NYP); Bold, unflinching, and ingeniously constructed, ...not to be missed (Back Stage); Destination theater (NY1).

The cast features three-time Emmy Award winner and Tony nominee Laurie Metcalf as 'Juliana Smithton,' Metcalf's daughter Zoe Perry as 'The Woman,' Daniel Stern (Ian) and John Schiappa (The Man).

Laurie Metcalf and John Schiappa are reprising their roles from the show's world premiere off-Broadway production in 2011.

The Other Place: Juliana Smithton is a successful neurologist whose life seems to be coming unhinged. Her husband has filed for divorce, her daughter has eloped with a much older man and her own health is in jeopardy. Nothing is as it seems, and piece by piece a mystery unfolds as fact blurs with fiction, past collides with present and the elusive truth about Juliana boils to the surface.

The creative team features set design by Eugene Lee, costumes by David Zinn, lighting by Justin Townsend and sound by Fitz Patton.

The Other Place had its world premiere in a MCC Theater production which opened at Off-Broadway's Lucille Lortel Theatre on 28 Mar 2011 where it played an extended run, closing on 1 May 2011. The show was nominated for two Outer Critics Circle Awards, a Drama League Award, and three Lucille Lortel Awards. Metcalf won an Obie Award and a Lucille Lortel Award for her performance in the production.
